[reposting ... sorry the text was lost when I tried to post from my phone.] My Taster often says, "listen to what they say but watch what they do." Sometimes you hear the big <<<clang>>> when the two don't match.
I heard a distinct clanging sound at Netroots Nation after listening to Van Jones' amazing speech about including everyone and then going to the Bacon and Bourbon reception sponsored by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. Even the cupcakes had little bacon hats!
Not much of a welcome for the Jews, the Muslims, the 7th Day Adventists, the vegetarians, or anyone who has read the latest report on diet and cancer risk by the World Cancer Research Fund and American Institute for Cancer Research, which says the link between bacon and other processed meats and colon cancer is not just "probable," it's "convincing."
Yes, we're at the tail-end of a bacon fad. And I bet that bacon and chocolate do taste great together. But the Food Workers Union had a chance to show that they are fighting for a healthier America when they do what the banner says: putting food on America's tables. They could have shown that they welcome all the members of the Netroots Nation. It would have been as easy as adding to the alliteration: Bacon, Bourbon, and Beans.
